Choosing the right toothbrush for your baby

According to TS.BS Pham Nhu Hai, Head of Dental Department, Vietnam - Cuba Hospital (Hanoi), to three or four years is the best time to practice using toothpaste. At first, use only a small amount of cream and instruct the child not to swallow the cream, because the consumption of fluorine is not only harmful to health, but also affect the quality of children's enamel later.

Some of the suggestions below will help you choose the right toothbrush and how to use toothpaste that best suits your child.

Toothbrush selection for baby

Size: The toothbrush is 12-13 cm long, the length of the toothbrush is 1.6-1.8 cm, the width is not more than 0.8 cm and the height is not more than 0.9 cm.

The bristles of the brushes must be moderately rigid, and at the same time elastic. If the bristles are too soft, they will not clean the teeth the best way. But if the bristles are too hard, they can hurt the gums.

When choosing baby toothbrushes, you should direct your attention to the top of the toothbrush. The tip of the baby toothbrush should always be small to fit your baby's mouth easily. A toothbrush with a large brush head will only hurt your baby.

In addition, you should choose the toothbrush head for the circle instead of many other shapes. Because round-shaped toothbrushes will not hurt your baby's gums.

You should also consider the shape and color when choosing to buy toothbrush for the baby. A toothbrush designed with fancy shapes or their favorite animated characters will be the most visually appealing motivating force for brushing their teeth daily.

Guide your child to only get the right amount of toothpaste for each stroke, while saving money and protecting the teeth. You only need to replace children's toothpaste with adult toothpaste when the entire child's teeth are permanently replaced, equivalent to when the child is between 10 and 12 years old.

Choose toothpaste

When choosing a toothpaste mothers should note the following points:

Do not choose too much foaming toothpaste. Choose a toothpaste tastes appropriate to your baby's preferences, avoid choosing the smell can be uncomfortable for the baby.

Choose age-appropriate toothpaste. Properly use fluoride toothpastes and some stimulants.

Do not use toothpaste for a long time or expire. Use an appropriate amount of toothpaste each time you brush, while also protecting your teeth.

If your baby has a fever, it is best to stop using toothpaste and gently rub the baby's mouth with salt water.

Note:

When your baby is brushing her teeth, she should not soak her toothbrush in hot boiling water.

After brushing your teeth, mothers need to instruct them how to clean the toothbrush so that the toothbrush stick to the toothpaste or the plaque of the teeth.

Each member of the family should have a separate toothbrush. Do not use the same brush with adults to prevent the spread of certain diseases.

Usually, mothers should replace the toothbrush for the baby every 3 months or when the bristles on the brush begin to be rough or deformed.
